Eyes Strain - Success Story

Do you know that over 6 children in every class have a vision problem?
The problem is most ‘see very clearly’ – the problem is with their Eye Muscles.

Eyestrain is caused when the eye muscles are weak. The most successful way to treat the eyestrain is with eye exercises, also referred to as “Vision Therapy”.

htsHere is a success story from a teacher.
She recognised the signs of students with eyestrain, who have now been successfully treated with Vision Therapy:

‘I have been an educator for 45 years, functioning in such roles as a teacher, as principal and teacher simultaneously, as just a principal, and now as a director of a tutoring center.
About 20 years ago, an optometrist spoke at the Home/School association meeting. His topic was “Vision, Reading and Eyestrain”.

This presentation ‘opened my eyes’ to the problem of undiagnosed eyestrain among school students.

He spoke about how eye exercises could help some children to reduce eyestrain, focus better and thus read better. He stressed the importance of teachers watching children's eyes to see what they were doing as the student read. I watched what was going on, and referred many students to the eye doctor, regardless of what school vision testing said. I saw changes in many students.

The most exciting part of my whole teaching experience has been having students come to class week after week after doing Vision Therapy and see the changes in them. The eyestrain is significantly reduced. Here are some success stories in helping children with eyestrain:

•    Brett is in second grade. His reading is very slow, even though he is a very bright child. He has eyestrain and rubs his eyes during class. After vision therapy he showed us his true intelligence. His reading is now above class average and he no longer has signs of eyestrain.

•    Monica used to say "Do I have to read?" Now, she comes bouncing down the corridor to her classroom, because she can't wait to get started. One day she was "lost." When she was finally located, she was in her room, READING A BOOK – with no eyestrain.

•    Michael has very poor concentration. He was even moved to the front of the class, with very little improvement. Problem was he had eyestrain, causing blurry vision whenever he read for more than 5 minutes….so of course, her preferred looking out the window. Vision therapy has strengthened Michael’s eye muscles and his eyestrain has gone. He is now able to focus in class.
